Knicks Rumors: Will Jeremy Lin Return To New York For 'Linsanity' 2?

The  New York Knicks will be playing under new coach Jeff Hornacek in the 2015-16 NBA season and the new bench tactician is expected to add another point guard to the roster. And according to recent Knicks rumors, New York could make a run at Jeremy Lin this summer.

CBS Sports reported in May Hornacek’s arrival could pave the way for the return of Lin to New York, where he had the breakout season of his career in 2012. ‘Linsanity‘ made headlines in 2012 after posting 23.9 points and 9.2 assists in 11 games. One league executive said Hornacek could recreate the point guard’s Linsanity moment.

Lin had a solid year for the Charlotte Hornets this season, as he averaged 11.3 points to go with 3.2 rebounds and 3.0 off the bench. The 27-year-old point guard is expected to opt out of the second season of his two-year, $4.37 million contract with the Hornets, giving the Knicks a chance to nab the former Harvard University standout.

However, New York Post reported the Knicks are having second thoughts about signing Lin to become their starting point guard next season because of his defense. CBS Sports added that the Palo Alto, California native is better suited for a backup or utility-type role that he played in Charlotte this year.

Jackson's first big move of the off-season was hiring Jeff Hornacek to be the club's head coach.

"We have Jerian [Grant] and [Kristaps Porzingis] and these young players now on this team that need a teacher and need a guy to help lift their game up and their confidence", Jackson said.

While earlier speculations pointed to a possible super team with Anthony, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul, it looks like a stint with the famed Los Angeles Lakers under their new mentor, Golden State Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton will be more feasible for the New York Knicks star. Rambis was 9-19 as interim coach, and had the Knicks playing more triangle than they had under Fisher. "But I do know Kurt and we talked about a lot of things and how, if I kept him on as coach, what his role would be".

Phoenix fired Sichting and assistant coach Mike Longabardi about a month before firing Hornacek this season. The team has been a bottom Eastern Conference team for the past few seasons but they will be looking to spend big money this summer.

I have no idea why the Knicks would think that Lin's defense is gaping. Hornacek has suggested it would be ideal to have a player who bridges the divide between the two.

However, the East's unending commitment to mediocrity might prove to be an obstacle. They have ranked dead last in fast-break points in each of the past four seasons, allowing teams like the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers to set their stout defenses and prevent the Knicks from catching them off guard.

The Knicks already have such a player on the roster: Tony Wroten, whom they signed in March. "We'll continue to talk and if it works out, we'll figure it out then". It would be unwise for them to offer any of their limited draft assets to unload that salary unless the absolute ideal player were ready to come on board and they needed the space. If 45 wins and a chance to host LeBron James at Madison Square Garden twice in late April is the goal, this will probably be the same approach Jackson takes as he warms to his third full year of a five-year, $60 million deal to act as Knicks president.

"You name [the need], we've got it".
