Three-year-old boy killed by dog at house in Essex named

The youngster was bitten in a property in Parker Way, Halstead, at 5.40pm yesterday.

The 3 year-old was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital, where he later died of his injuries, later that evening.

The animal - identified as an American bulldog, which is not a banned breed in the United Kingdom - has been seized by police and placed in kennels. The toddler tragically died after being mauled by an American bulldog while playing with friends at a neighbours house in Essex.

"I thought we'd be able to help as we're both first aid trained but it was just so bad".

His age and name have yet to be released.

"I heard this screaming", she said.

"The mother was on the front garden, she was down on her knees distraught and covered in blood".

The entry adds: "This breed tolerates children and can do very well with them, provided they are socialised early and understand their limits".

He said the couple who lived in the house had been there for about a year.

Neighbours describe the dog as a "pitbull" type with short white hair.

An air ambulance was called to the scene and the boy was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

Shirley Diver, the mayor of Halstead Town Council, said of the little boy's death: "It is an absolute tragedy, the whole town will be completely shocked and devastated by this. It is such a bad thing to happen".

"Sadly despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the child died and our thoughts are with the family involved at this time".

MP for Halstead, James Cleverly, tweeted: "Such bad, heart breaking news, I was briefed by @EssexPoliceUK earlier this morning".

The incident comes days after a 52-year-old man was attacked by a dog in the street in Huddersfield.

He was attacked while walking his Yorkshire Terrier when it broke free of a makeshift kennel.
