Jack Del Rio Receives New Four-Year Deal

Jack Del Rio Receives New Four-Year Deal

The team announced Friday night that Del Rio's original four-year contract was being replaced with a new four-year deal.

Before Oakland, Del Rio spent nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, going 12-4 in 2005.

The 12-4 mark also saw the Raiders make their first playoff appearance since 2002. "We are excited to continue building on the strong foundation that has been established and this is a significant step in achieving that goal". The kicker is that they did pay off, earning him the moniker "Black Jack Del Rio". He came close to winning the AFC West this past season with the Raiders, but lost out on a tiebreaker to the Kansas City Chiefs. Oakland had eight coaches in that span before Del Rio solidified the job when hired by general manager Reggie McKenzie. The Raiders were coached by Mike Shanahan, Art Shell, Mike White, Joe Bugel, Jon Gruden, Bill Callahan, Norv Turner, Shell again, Lane Kiffin, Tom Cable, Hue Jackson, Dennis Allen and Tony Sparano between Flores's retirement and Del Rio's arrival. Derek Carr and Khalil Mack admit that Del Rio rejuvenated their hunger for the game, something that may unsurprisingly show the same with the other members of the Oakland Raiders, ESPN reported.
