Zverev downs Gasquet for Montpellier title

19-year-old Alexander Zverev continued his status of "one to watch" by earning his second career ATP title at the Open Sud de France event in Monpellier, France over two-time defending champion Richard Gasquet.

Tsonga's compatriot Jeremy Chardy had lost in the quarter-finals to Zverez, 6-4 4-6 6-2. "I managed to come back, but he broke me again", Gasquet said.

Gasquet has won the ATP 250 tournament in three of the last four years and moved a step closer to yet another success in Montpellier by seeing off another Frenchman in the form of De Schepper 6-2 5-7 6-4.

"I'm very happy to win my first title of the year", said Zverev.

Zverev, with a stinging forehand victor backed up by several strong serves, allowed him to open an early lead in the tiebreak. Gasquet fought gamely, erasing three match points, but on the fourth another forehand missed, giving Zverev his second career title after winning in St. Petersburg last fall. "I think it was a high-level match and I'm happy to get the win".

Zverev, the younger brother of tennis player Mischa Zverev, is considered one of the rising stars of the game and recently took 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal to five sets in the third round of the Australian Open. "We only dropped one set".

"It was a hard match", said Gasquet. "It was close during the first set". He deserves his victory today.
