ABC Cast Rachel Lindsay as First Black 'Bachelorette'

ABC Cast Rachel Lindsay as First Black 'Bachelorette'

On Monday night's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live", the network revealed that Rachel Lindsay will star in season 13 of "The Bachelorette".

As Hollywood Reporter reported, Rachel Lindsay, now on "The Bachelor" with Nick Viall, will be announced on tonight's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".

But host Chris Harrison claims that Lindsay would be great in the lead, as even though she is strong and independent, she can be sweet as well. Lindsay's season premieres May 22.

"Yes, it is, but we're a couple of weeks out from filming, " Lindsay explained.

"This coveted role is always reserved for a fan-favorite from the previous season, and Rachel is no exception and has been the fans' choice since she exited the limo", ABC executive Robert Mills said in a statement. "She just wanted to make sure Nick was comfortable with it". She's looking for a man who is ready to get married and start a family.

We LOVE that Ellen is asking Nick the tough questions. "I'm honored to have this opportunity and to represent myself as an Africa-American woman". I literally wrote this just because I happen to like her and find her to be one of the less annoying and more "real" contestants on The Bachelor.

Lindsay told Strahan that she was only slightly hesitant about the offer before she made a decision to accept it. "I'm just glad I don't have to keep it a secret anymore", she said.

Well, better late than never I suppose...

But it handled the announcement rather clumsily, managing to spoil the current season of "The Bachelor" in the process.

"Obviously having a diverse Bachelorette is so exciting for so many reasons, and I think they want this to be a historic moment both in numbers and who it is", the 24-year-old says. Congrats! You will be one hell of a Bachelorette! The thought of people needing to hear this message in 2017 is quite frankly frightening, but it's good to see Rachel won't shy away from dropping the truth bombs.
