Joey + Rory win Grammy Award a year after Joey's death

Singer Joey Martin Feek and Rory Lee Feek of Joey + Rory perform on stage during the 2009 CMT Music Awards at the Sommet Center on June 16, 2009 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Joey Feek had dreamed of winning a Grammy, and her husband was overcome with emotion as he watched her dream come to life. However, the world fell in love with the couple after Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Rory Feek gave an emotional acceptance speech in memory of his late wife, Joey Feek, during a pre-telecast of the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday.

"She sang her vocals in hotel rooms while she did chemo and radiation and it finally came out a year ago, nearly exactly", Rory shared about the album with People magazine.

Feek said the hymns were songs his wife grew up with, according to USA Today.

"My wife, for her to be so positive to the very end, even with a 2-year-old playing on the floor - if she can be positive, I have nothing to be upset about", he said. Joey's mother is with her, and also my daughters [Heidi and Hopie, both adults]. And, she's just precious.

The Washington Post reported that Rory accepted the award saying "This is to my wife, thank you so much".

"Right as the album came out, we watched the Grammys together and she said, 'If we get nominated next year, you have to promise me that you'll go.' And I said, 'I will, '" Feek told USA Today about his attendance at this year's award show. Because there was nothing left for the doctors to do, Joey made the heart-wrenching decision to stop treatment and return to her home in hospice care.

The positivity Joey carried with her until her untimely death is a reminder for Rory to keep moving forward, he explained.
