UFC 208 Highlights, Bellator Features Fedor Emelianenko Friday, Next UFC Card

It wasn't the most effective fight for Holly Holm, a slow start and a sharp de Randamie led to Holly having her back on the wall yet again.

But the victory proved controversial after De Randamie twice landed solid punches to the face of Holm after the buzzer had sounded to mark the end of the round. But she did admit she thought she won the last three rounds and that the referee should have looked more closely at those infractions.

Had Anderson taken a point away from De Randamie for the second infraction - and make no mistake, a point deduction should have been the correct response - the fight would have been declared a draw.

Germaine de Randamie would go on to win a unanimous decision over Holly Holm in which all three judges scored the fight 48-47 for de Randamie.

The former boxer threw more punches at De Randamie, but the new champion's shots were more effective.

"If it's one shot after the bell at the end of a combo, then yeah, that's an accident sometimes".

Public opinion aside, UFC 208 was a milestone night for mixed marital arts.

"I want to fight everybody", De Randamie (7-3) said immediately after the UFC belt was placed around her waist. "I apologise. I'm not like that". Devoid of entertainment for the large majority of the show, which kicked off at 6PM with five uninspired prelim fights that went to decision and continued on until 1AM with a single stoppage on the card from Brazil's Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza. It was expected that the victor would take on Cris "Cyborg" Santos next, but de Randamie said after the fight that she has torn ligaments in her thumb that are going to require surgery and she's not sure how long she will be sidelined.

Holm is notable for handing Ronda Rousey her first career loss, and in doing so earned the UFC bantamweight championship.

UFC president Dana White, who was unhappy with the card in general, felt a point should have been taken. A lot of times, the first one they give a warning, that's kind of normal. "I'm one of those that feels like I shouldn't have let her do it anyway. We didn't have any of those". Yahoo Sports put much of the blame on Anderson.

"The New York State Athletic Commission maintains a roster of highly qualified referees for assignment to bouts held in New York State", the NYSAC told MMA Fighting in a statement through spokesperson Laz Benitez.

The UFC along the way refused to create a weight class to accommodate Justino because they said that there wasn't enough talent to fill its ranks. He should not have been in there. But again, we don't make those decisions.

Glover Teixeira's ceiling is clearly established, so while seeing him showcase his wrestling in a good win over Jared Cannonier gets him back in the win column, it does nothing to make you reconsider his position in the pecking order, especially when you consider that Jon Jones is likely to face the victor of the UFC 210 rematch between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson.
