Trump Administration Takes Another Hit: Labor Secretary Withdraws

President Trump has yet to post any tweets on the matter, but at least one person out there is already thinking about a bold nomination he can put forward to recover from this setback. Who is responsible for the disrespect: Trump or the pastor?

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown said United States workers "can breathe a sigh of relief" after Puzder's announcement. The source had given Puzder an 80 percent chance of removing himself from consideration, CBS News reports.

A source close to the CKE Restaurants CEO told CBS's Major Garrett that he was "very exhausted of the abuse" that he received as part of his confirmation process. The Republicans only hold 52 seats.

"He has had a tremendous career", Mr Trump told reporters assembled in the East Room of the White House.

Earlier Wednesday, even Republican leaders were calling for Puzder to withdraw his nomination.

Puzder's hearing had been postponed for some weeks as he had taken so long to provide the required paperwork.

The New York Times reported that the president was planning to ask Stephen A Feinberg, co-founder of Cerberus Capital Management, a private investment firm, to conduct the review and stay on for a large role in the intelligence community. The committee has yet to receive his opening statement, which is usually sent 24 hours in advance, according to a staffer for Washington Democratic Sen. Rob Portman of OH and John Thune of South Dakota had also not publicly committed to supporting Pruitt's nomination.

The last-minute press conference comes amid a tumultuous week for the president, who saw Mr. Puzder drop out and had to force a resignation from his national security adviser over his misleading administration officials about contacts with Russian Federation during the transition. His former wife, Lisa Fierstein, had levelled the accusations in 1990 but later recanted.

He also once employed an undocumented immigrant as a housekeeper.
