After Magic Show Gone Wrong

A magician performing in a Las Vegas show has reportedly been rushed to hospital after a straitjacket escape trick went wrong, leaving him dangling upside down. Tickets were still on sale for Saturday's and Sunday's shows.

"During Friday evening's performance, while attempting his famed upside-down straitjacket escape while suspended by his feet, he lost consciousness", Criss's rep said in a statement on Saturday.

After the illusionist lost consciousness, he "was evaluated and released early this morning".

TMZ reports Angel was taken to the emergency room at nearby Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center and discharged later that night. "In his absence, a representative of HELP, the nonprofit Criss created to find a cure for pediatric cancer, presented MakeAWish with a $100,000 donation". The newspaper reported that before he was forced to undergo surgery on his shoulder, "he had performed more than 2,100 shows over five years without canceling a performance".

Audience members posted tweets and Facebook updates referencing an incident during the show, saying the show had been canceled shortly after starting.

This isn't the first time that particular stunt has resulted in injury for the star.

One social media user noted that Angel had stopped moving altogether, then the curtain lowered. Cast members then brought a stool on stage, untied Angel, and rushed him offstage.

Angel hangs upside down while buckled into a double-straitjacketed harness for this trick, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
