First Baby Trailer Arrives After SXSW Debut

First Baby Trailer Arrives After SXSW Debut

A date that just seems too far away at this point, Baby Driver will open in US theaters on August 11.

Writer/director Edgar Wright has a lot riding (geddit?) on this, after Scott Pilgrim VS The World made only $47 million at the worldwide box office on a $60 million budget (despite it being all kinds of brilliant), and then he eventually had to part-ways with directing Ant-Man for Disney and Marvel due to the old classic "creative differences".

The two and a half minutes we see are filled with unorthodox camera angles, quick zooms, match cuts, and smash cuts that seem in tune with the action. But industry observers and fanboys have been buzzing about this one for a while, and after one look at the film's blistering first trailer, it's easy to see why.

Thankfully, that's about to change, as the filmmaker's new effort, Baby Driver, is gearing up to ride into theaters this August, with an impressive cast in tow. Wright had better be holding back hours of footage of an adorable baby (or babies!) performing wonderful stunts behind the wheel of a auto (or cars!) or he's going to have a lot of angry moviegoers. Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx and Jon Hamm co-star. It gets genuinely tense and threatening.

Ansel Elgort plays the titular Baby, a young getaway driver who seeks to quit his life of crime after falling for the girl of his dreams (Lily James). "That was actually a fun thing for me - to do dramatic or thriller scenes which just up the ante".

As well as the worldwide trailer, a U.S. trailer also landed at the same time, edited slightly differently. Facing a chance to ditch the criminal life for good, the character gets coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey) on a heist that puts his entire future into doubt.
