California mom abandons 2-year-old at Food 4 Less

A 2-year-old girl was abandoned at a Riverside Food-4-Less on Sunday evening.

The suspect was identified as Chiengkham Vilaysane, according to Riverside Police Department spokesman Officer Ryan Railsback.

Surveillance video shows the woman entering the store with her daughter.

Police said the mother is seen on security video checking out at the cash register and then left without her toddler, who Mattson said didn't have a clue.

The mother reportedly turned back and said "Oh, just leave her", and kept on walking. At some point, the child wandered off, but Vilaysane continued shopping, never looking for her. She was just floating around, and everybody in the store was like, 'Why is the child running around alone?

KABC reports the incident happened Sunday afternoon at a Riverside, Calif. Food 4 Less.

Detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying the woman.

Police initially said Vilaysane could face child endangering charges, but no charges have been filed yet.

Police say that it appears as though the child was left intentionally by the woman that the child identified as "mommy" when shown surveillance footage.

The mother is described as being 20-30-years-old and of unknown race. She has since been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services. She was last seen wearing a black or dark tank top and denim shorts. Portions of her right arm are covered in tattoos.
