Emma Watson plays down Beauty and the Beast's 'gay moment'

Emma Watson plays down Beauty and the Beast's 'gay moment'

"He's confused about what he wants. It's somebody who's just realising that he has these feelings", Condon said.

During the interview they joked how much they paid to be in the film and memorable moments from filming.

The film stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, and Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome-but-shallow villager who woos Belle.

Ewan McGregor laughed off the Beauty and the Beast gay controversy and mockingly said that no one in Alabama should see the movie. It's always like, does he idolize Gaston? During the movie's New York City premiere, Ian McKellen (who plays the clock, Cogsworth) referred to the movie as "another gay extravaganza" for Condon, who has also directed "Gods & Monsters", not to mention "Dreamgirls" and "Kinsey".

"And I was like, I've got to be all-in and so this was really where my heart was and I knew I had to fully commit and make sure that I did this". "It's just nuts", he said". As far as I can tell, some journalist in England decided to make it his cause célèbre to push this agenda. To me, it's an utter non-issue. This wasn't a movie I could just kind of parachute into.

Menken's statement may come as a surprise to those familiar with the 1991 film's backstory.

A leading Russian politician is urging the country's culture ministry to ban the Disney film Beauty and the Beast, claiming it is "gay propaganda".

The film's "gay moment", as described by Condon, has become a source of controversy as the film is set for release worldwide. Its film censors duly passed the film for release, but now the studio has opted to withdraw its Malaysian release altogether.

Disney was told that the film would only be approved to debut in Malaysia if they cut a scene depicting a "gay moment" from the feature. Watson wanted Belle to have her own back-story, and a strong reason why the other villagers regarded her as different.

"He's a gay character", McGregor said with a shrug in an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night.
