'Power Rangers' actor pleads guilty to killing roommate with sword

Actor Ricardo Medina Jr., best known for his role as the Red Ranger in the Power Rangers Wild Force television series, has plead guilty to the murder of Joshua Sutter in 2015.

The two roommates got into a fight at their home in Green Valley, Calif., according to a statement from the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

After the stabbing, Medina called the police, and Sutter was pronounced dead soon after being taken to a nearby hospital.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 30, with Medina Jr. facing up to six years in state prison. They had gotten into a dispute regarding the actor's girlfriend, according to Thursday's press announcement.

Sutter was stabbed in the abdomen with a "Conan the Barbarian-style" sword, TMZ reported a year ago. Medina claimed he acted in self-defence.

Case MA067742 was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He was first arrested and charged with his roommate's murder in January 2016 and has remained in custody since then.

TMZ reported a year ago that Sutter's family believed Medina was charged with murder because evidence didn't back up his self-defense story.

Medina played the leader of the Power Rangers in the 2002 Power Rangers Wild Force series and then appeared as the villain Deker in two later series.

He has also appeared in an episode of ER and one of CSI: Miami.

'He is a great friend and a great client.

After being released from jail in February 2015, Medina told reporters he was " very, very, very sorry for what occurred". That charge could have seen him behind bars for 26 years to life.
