Vikings GM confirms team won't re-sign Adrian Peterson

The Minnesota Vikings confirmed Thursday that running back Adrian Peterson won't be back with the team next season.

Peterson ends his career in Minnesota as one of the greatest Vikings of all-time, rushing for 11,747 yards and 97 touchdowns.

Early Thursday morning, the team announced it had signed Murray, who donned the same jersey number for the Oakland Raiders the previous four seasons. Five days shy of his 32nd birthday, Peterson has drawn scant interest in free agency, visiting only the Seattle Seahawks. However, with Murray officially out of the picture in the Bay Area, the Raiders could swoop in to complete the clean swap as the franchise has already been linked to Peterson this offseason. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2015 after rushing for 1,066 yards and six touchdowns.

With Peterson looking for a new team, Minnesota is moving on with a scheduled visit by Murray later today.

A classy move from the Vikings' newest running back.

Peterson is the leading rusher in Vikings history and ranks 16th in National Football League history with 11,747 yards in 10 seasons. Traditional "running down" backs like Peterson who want the ball 25 times per game - without providing pass-catching savvy - are getting phased out. "I've been a huge fan of everything that he's done there, so it was something that I didn't even need them to tell me, and everything worked out". He took care of online coursework for a Marketing Management class toward his MBA through Syracuse while his agent and the Vikings were engaged in negotiations on Wednesday night.
