BSNL offers 56GB data and unlimited calling for Rs 339

The tribunal was hearing a petition filed by industry leader Bharti Airtel, which had raised objections to Jio's promotional offer launched in December, under which the new player had offered several free services including free voice calls and 1GB of free 4G data daily till March 31, 2017.

The BSNL offer includes 2GB of 3G data with a 28-day validity and unlimited calling to other BSNL numbers.

And nearly half that was spent by the market leader; Airtel spent Rs450-550 crore on advertising as against Rs250-350 crore in 2015, while Reliance Jio just spent Rs 100-150 crore, according to the Pitch Madison report. The telco had also launched 10 Prime packs of users that join the network before March 31, 2017, and had also launched a buy one get one free offer for Jio Prime users.

BSNL customers under the new scheme will also get 25 minutes of free call to other network every day and after that they will be charged 25 paisa for minute long phone call. The company said that BSNL Offers 2GB Data per day and unlimited calling within its network upon recharge with Rs. 339.

Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular moved TDSAT this year, questioning the telecom regulator's clean chit to Reliance Jio's "predatory" pricing.

Airtel has announced that it will be providing its postpaid users with 30GB of free data for a period of three months, starting March 13. Recently Jio has offered 500MB data for 28 Day on recharge of Rs 99.

The tribunal further observed that the availability of special benefits as per the terms and conditions of the plan is limited to less than six months. At that time, the company hadn't revealed exactly how much data users will be allowed to avail as a part of its "Airtel Surprise" offer.

TRAI Tribunal refuses to stay on the Reliance Jio Free welcome offer.
