Intruder caught after breaching White House Security

Tran purportedly entered the White House grounds at about 11:38 p.m. Friday with a backpack and was approaching the building's south portico residence entrance when apprehended.

No hazardous materials were found during a search of a backpack the individual carried over the fence, the agency said. He reportedly was toting a backpack that was searched and found not to contain risky material.

The name of the suspect, who was arrested by uniformed Secret Service, was not released.

The last notable White House security breach took place in 2014, when 42-year-old Omar Gonzalez jumped a fence and overpowered a Secret Service officer before he was tackled in the Green Room. The incident happened just before midnight.

The White House could not be reached immediately to confirm the report.

Tran was carrying a letter he'd written to Trump in which he mentioned "Russian Hackers" and wrote he had relevant information, according to a charging document. President Trump is reportedly at the presidential residence this weekend. Tran is charged with entering restricted grounds while carrying a risky weapon.

CNN reported that the suspect has no criminal history.

Mr Kelly was among several Cabinet secretaries and senior White House staff members who attended a working lunch with the president at the Trump National Golf Club. Commenting on the incident, Trump told reporters, "It was a troubled person". The man who scaled the fence was later accosted by Secret Service and handed over to the local police but not before he successfully made his way onto the grounds, undetected. Tran also alleged in the letter that his phone and email communications had been intercepted by third parties, and that he had been accused of being schizophrenic.

People intruding on White House property, only to be quickly arrested, is a bit of thing. Omar Gonzales walked through the North Portico door with a folding knife in his trousers pocket in 2014.
