'Beauty and the Beast' Debuts to Magical $350 Million Globally

The monster ape movie's domestic haul now stands at a not inconsiderable $110.1 million and $259 million worldwide. In the UK/Ireland, it also delivered the biggest Disney live-action opening of all-time, the biggest March opening weekend of all-time, and now the largest domestic opening of 2017 to date.

Spring Break brought with it plenty of audience attention to go around, and despite Beauty and the Beast's domination, most other movies only dropped by typical amounts.

The live action update of the 1991 animated classic scored the second biggest March debut on a global basis, coming in behind "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's" $424.1 million launch.

Following the live-action version of "The Jungle Book" earning close to $1 billion worldwide previous year, the studio looks to have another cash cow in the making with "Beauty and the Beast" breaking the record for the biggest opening weekend ever for March with an estimated $170 million, according to Variety. The franchise includes 2010's "Alice in Wonderland", 2014's "Maleficent", 2015's "Cinderella", and last year's "The Jungle Book".

Rediscover the magic of this Disney classic in a live-action musical starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as Beast.

The actress is actively seeking the role of Ariel in the live-action remake, and in an online plea to studio bosses last month, the "Mean Girls" star suggested Condon should direct her.

It carries a hefty $160 million budget but it has already recouped that and looks likely to earn far more as its run continues.
