Carolina teams fuel quick sellout for Greenville regional

The flag, which was raised by protesters on the top level of an adjoining parking garage, flew near the arena's main fan entrance, making nearly certain that many attendees at the NCAA games would see it on their way in.

In addition to the large flag that was seen waving near Greenville's Bon Secours Wellness Arena where the men's games were taking place, protesters were seen carrying the flag on the streets below. They planned to stay throughout the games and be on grounds as fans arrived at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

According to WYFF, the group wanted to send a message to the NCAA as well as state lawmakers. The facility is hosting two games Sunday, North Carolina versus Arkansas, followed by Duke against SC.

The state's Secessionist Party put up the flag in the parking lot near the tournament venue in Greenville on Sunday morning. Based on the behavior of both of the Carolinas, the NCAA might be best to steer clear of both states.

Last fall, Greenville bid to host the NCAA tournament games originally ticketed for Greensboro, N.C. The NCAA yanked all major championship events out of the state of North Carolina in September in response to North Carolina's controversial House Bill 2 law, the so-called bathroom bill that requires transgender people to use public restrooms corresponding with their birth gender. That's why this event is being held in our state right now.

But it removed them from the state over its HB2 bill, which limits protections offered to LGBT people and relocating to Greenville.

The NCAA regional in 2002 was allowed to remain in the state. "You think we all agree on everything?" This renouncement, and the subsequent removal of all confederate flags from state property, was a direct result of the Dylan Roof shootings in Charleston.

Roof was convicted of multiple murder counts and sentenced to death.

A single flag is being flown from the top level of the parking lot adjacent to the arena, where the second round of the NCAA tournament will begin tonight.

"I didn't feel it was right when the flag came down", Meadows, who has family members that fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War, said.

Incident: Protesters said they wanted to make their presence known to the NCAA.
