Penélope Cruz IS Donatella Versace In Ryan Murphy's American Crime Story

Only a lovely Oscar-winning actress can step into Versace's shoes and that actress is Penelope Cruz.

Latest casting news from the "American Crime Story" franchise: Oscar victor Penélope Cruz will play Donatella Versace, sister of murdered fashion designer Gianni Versace.

Cruz joins a cast that includes Darren Criss (Glee) as Cunanan. Versace: American Crime Story is the third installment of the award-winning limited series from executive producers Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. While Lady Gaga was a possible shoe-in for the role of Gianni's sister and human work of art Donatella Versace, Variety reports that role has gone to Oscar-winner Penélope Cruz. But this news puts those rumors to rest. The series will mark Cruz's regular TV debut. The actress is best know for her lengthy movie career, starring in a string of films across many genres, including Vanilla Sky, Blow, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and, most recently, the comedies The Brothers Grimsby and Zoolander 2. The season is based on Maureen Orth's book "Vulgar Favors". The 10-episode season will follow the second installment of the series, "Katrina", which will air in 2018.

Production on the third season of FX's critical darling is set to bring this April with Season 3 set to arrive sometime in 2018; an official premiere date will be announced at a later date as will additional casting details! Murphy has also already confirmed the focus of the fourth installment: the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal. Matthew Broderick will also star in the series, alongside Courtney B. Vance, Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding Jr., from season one's "The People v. O.J. Simpson".
