European Union to hold first Brexit summit on April 29

Barnier also today told the Committee of the Regions in the European Parliament it would be important to clarify early in the negotiations the status of Brits living in the EU, and EU citizens in Britain. Furthermore, if the final Brexit agreement is "mixed"-as in, it affects nation-level policy, which seems likely-then it will also have to pass through all 27 national governments".

His tweet came on the heels of the British government's announcement that Prime Minister Theresa May is going to trigger the Article 50 on March 29, formally starting the country's exit from the EU.

Peers expressed concern that without appropriate deals, British broadcasters could lose the right to sell programmes to European markets, United Kingdom airlines may have to relocate to the continent and the viability of events like London Fashion Week could be brought into question.

The prime minister also says she wants a "phased period of implementation" of a new relationship with the European Union to give businesses time to plan.

The UK's representative to the EU, Sir Tim Barrow, informed the office of European Council President, Donald Tusk, of Britain's intention to invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty next week, thereby meeting with the UK's commitment to do so by the end of March. However, Scotland wasn't in favor of Brexit and wanted to be a part of European Union for which the first minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon tried to seek another referendum voting which proved that the Scottish people were in not in favor of quitting which was apparently denied by Theresa May.

The former French government minister said the talks he will lead will be transparent and open, saying that "these negotiations can not take place in secret".

Major issues will also include freedom of movement, the rights of EU nationals in the United Kingdom and UK nationals in EU member states, Britain's access to the European Single Market, security, and environment co-operation.

Britain has said it wants to agree its divorce and a new relationship with Europe within the two years.

Prime Minister Theresa May said: "From my first day on the steps of Downing Street, I made clear my determination to strengthen and sustain the precious Union".

"But if politics - either here or on the continent - derails the process", Portes said, "we could soon find that far from 'taking back control, ' we have done precisely the opposite".

"Conversely, if we do not end these uncertainties and push them to the end of negotiations, we will be headed for failure".

The "hard Brexit" vision she has outlined would "unleash division and bitterness" and should be subject to a second referendum, he said.

The PM's official spokesman said: "Earlier this morning, the UK Permanent Representative to the European Union informed the office of Donald Tusk that it is the UK's intention to trigger Article 50 on March 29". After a draft deal is drawn up, it will need to be approved by at least 20 of the remaining 27 EU member states and ratified by the European Parliament.
