Five children hurt after inflatables go airborne in South Carolina

Five children were injured when a strong wind picked up two bounce houses at a church carnival in SC on Saturday, sending one of the inflatables into a tree and the other into a power line, authorities said.

The church was holding their annual Spring Carnival when an inflatable slide and a bounce house went airborne.

Two of the children were severely hurt by the mishap at Springwell Church.

The children were taken to a nearby hospital and their condition is now unknown.

The children's conditions are unknown at this time. "It was like 20 feet up in the air".

Officials said witnesses gave conflicting information about which bounce house the children were playing in when the wind gust carried it away.

The incident happened shortly after 2 p.m.at the church's campus on Wade Hampton Boulevard Saturday.

According to Fire Chief Ricky Reed, "It looked like a mini-tornado". Greenville resident Alyssa Wentzel saw the accident play out while standing on line for the bounce house with her 8-year-old son.

'We are saddened for those who were injured during the unfortunate accident today. "Duke Energy safeguards saved more lives than we did".

"We join their families, in prayer, for their full recovery".
