Kansas outcome a warning to GOP as Georgia contest nears

Democrats hold only three other districts that even gave Trump a majority.

Also in 2016, Donald trump won the presidency.

Ron has been deeply involved in his community for years and I'm confident he will be a strong voice for Kansas' 4th Congressional District in Washington, D.C. Whether in the manufacturing industry or in public office, Ron has always worked to improve efficiency and find savings.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the NRCC's counterpart, closely monitored the race and eventually did 25,000 live phone calls to get out the Democratic vote there. "For that matter, if Republicans do well, Democrats shouldn't panic either; Republicans faced two dispiriting special election losses in NY and one in Pennsylvania before their 2010 landslide wins".

During an interview on MSNBC, the Democratic candidate in the House special election in Georgia, Jon Ossoff, showed exactly why Democrats are so excited and Republicans are deeply concerned about defeat next week. Eighteen candidates filed to run: 11 Republicans, 5 Democrats, and 2 independents, and Mr. Ossoff is ahead with just 39% of the vote, followed by Republican Karen Handel with 15% and Bob Gray with 12%. Both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence recorded robocalls for him, and Texas Sen. "People were writing us off the whole time", he said.

"You have to let these races unfold in their unique milieu and not turn it into a partisan proxy war", Russell said.

Lets to the comparable; A district in Kansas that Trump won by 27 percent, the Republican could only win 53 percent to the Democrat 48 percent.

Estes said in his victory speech Tuesday night that his campaign showed political pundits and national media that they were wrong in suggesting he could lose the race to Democrat and Wichita civil rights attorney James Thompson.

Next up for the GOP: Defending seats in Georgia, Montana and SC.

President Trump is historically unpopular, and the question on everyone's minds this month is how much of that unfavorability could overflow into the 2018 elections.

The election was held to fill the House seat vacated by CIA Director Mike Pompeo, a former three-term representative of Kansas' 4th district. Thompson came up short in his bid to beat republican Ron Estes in a special election to replace current Central Intelligence Agency director, and former U.S. Rep Mike Pompeo in the Kansas 4th congressional district.

Trump won 60 percent of the votes cast in the 17-county congressional district that includes the state's largest city of Wichita.

No, this is a Trump Slump for Republicans. In fact, he was supporting Democrats more generally.

James Thompson, the Democratic candidate, said, "Mr. Estes did not beat us".

Democratic National Committee member and Daily Kos member Chris Reeves said Tuesday that the blog set up its donation site last week.

Thompson's strength headed into the final days of the Kansas special election stunned Republicans and forced national GOP officials to make a major, last-minute effort to help their nominee. Trump tapped the onetime House Budget chairman for Health and Human Services secretary after he won re-election with 62 percent of the vote. But only once did the winning candidate in the special election get a higher percentage of the vote than their party's candidate in the preceding November election.
