Demetrious Johnson Defends UFC Title For Record-Tying 10th Time

I'm not at home beating my wife, crashing my auto, doing cocaine, all that stuff. The belt holds more significance since it was Mighty Mouse's 10 successful defense to tie Anderson Silva's record.

With flyweight and pound-for-pound king Demetrious Johnson closing as high as a -1100 favorite entering his UFC on Fox 24 headliner against Wilson Reis on April 15, no one expected to see a new UFC 125-pound champion crowned in Kansas City, Missouri; those expectations were on the money. "And he gets better each time, literally destroying people", said White during the UFC on FOX 24 post-fight press conference. "I just want to capture that photo, that Floyd Mayweather has done, Andre Ward just did it, all of the belts".

It's hard to read that last quote and not think of a fighter Johnson is in direct competition with for title of #1 P4P fighter and G.O.A.T. status, Jon Jones.

On winning his tenth belt: "I'm taking this motherf**** home!"

Johnson elaborated before the event.

Johnson also revealed that he would want to break the record for his next fight but he also demanded a seven-figure salary from the UFC if they want him to move up to bantamweight. "I'm going to be laughing all the way to the bank". I'll take it home. "And everyone was like, 'no, no no.' One guy said, 'I saw one on the UFC.com YouTube channel.' I'm like 'okay, I haven't seen one either'".

UFC President Dana White let Megan Olivi know backstage that the UFC will extend their dominant champion the courtesy, but said that isn't the standard. But like me, you have this thing in your head that he is 125 lbs so all of his fights must go to a decision and are most likely boring. And you know what I watch all day? "He's definitely getting his belt from tonight, and then I guess I've got some catching up to do". That's not the way it works.

It sounds like Demetrious Johnson is going to get his complete belt collection after all. If we're handing out belts every single defense here, that's a lot of money.

While most of us headed to the California desert for Coachella this weekend, the UFC put on a notable event where flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson made history.

"You have to take into account, how much advertising did they do?"
