Cavaliers to sign Dahntay Jones for playoffs

No. 7 IN and No. 8 Chicago both won earlier Monday, and would have clinched playoff trips with a Heat loss.

The Cavaliers won those three games by an average margin 9.67 points. It was the last day National Basketball Association teams could sign players and have them eligible for the playoffs.

Thompson played the game with a brace on his thumb that he will have to wear in the playoffs. The Charge were eliminated from the playoffs Saturday by Tavares' Raptors 905 team. When Sanders was acquired, Cavs General Manager David Griffin said he realized Sanders was a long-term project.

Asked about the recent poor performance of the team, James replied, "I've got the answer". Despite the perceived lackadaisical approach to season enders and questionable defense, as long as the team is healthy, the playoffs are a new start for the defending Champs. No matter who you are, Dahntay is going to make it clear that you're not holding up your end of the bargain.

The Cavs wasted a 26-point lead going into the fourth at Atlanta on Sunday, and an 11-pointer in the final 12 minutes of regulation of this one.

Jones was released in October and hasn't played this season. Following that year, he signed a four-year, $44 million extension with Milwaukee.

Though the Pacers lost a thrilling double-overtime game against the Cavaliers on April second, Paul George and company finished the season on a five-game winning streak.

The Celtics defeated the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday to have a two-game lead over the Cavaliers in the East standings.

"I thought the effort was great", Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said. "It's great to have him back".

"Even if we wouldn't have started 11-30, to go to the last game and have an opportunity to be in the playoffs, you would take that", Tyler Johnson said.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have all the talent they needed to win the championship past year, of course, starting with LeBron James.

The 1-8 and 2-7 matchups in the East can not be finalized until Wednesday.

"What's insane is that this season seemed like it went by faster than the one a year ago", Lue said. "We had some key injuries that set us back, but for the most part, it's pretty much the same". They beat Utah in three of their four regular-season meetings. The champions bounced back in February but by March, they were again struggling.

This Playoff matchup is the second time the Central Division foes have met in the postseason (1998 First Round). "He worked incredibly hard". However, the Wizards have proved to be one of the top teams in the East, rivaling Toronto for the best backcourt in the conference with John Wall and Bradley Beal.

Jones did not play in the D-League as he did last season.

"Our game was enough", he said.
