Sharapova could face Konta on return from suspension

The 23-year-old Spaniard, who grew up idolizing Williams, is ranked No. 6 in the world but may not be in top form.

Maria Sharapova shouldn't be granted French Open wildcard.

Former world number one tennis player Maria Sharapova.

During the so-called "week of May 15" the final decision is going to be officially announced, as the French federation, organizing the tournament, revealed on Friday in an interview to Reuters.

The five-time Grand Slam champion, who turned 30 this week, has been given a wildcard entry into next week's Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, a tournament she won three times between 2012 and 2014, in Stuttgart.

Konta, the world No 7, has chose to play next week in an effort to spend more time on clay courts before the French Open begins next month.

The World Anti-Doping Agency banned meldonium, which was previously legal past year.

Her return, though, will not come without controversy.

Her initial two-year ban was reduced to 15 months following an appeal to the court of arbitration for sport, which concluded she had not meant to cheat.

Sharapova said last year she used it for 10 years for reasons including a magnesium deficiency, irregular heart test results, and a family history of diabetes. "I think the same as Andy Murray", Radwanska, who has beaten Sharapova only twice in 15 attempts, told the newspaper.

"She wouldn't have a chance for (a wildcard) from my hands (if I was a tournament director)".

But French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli shrugged that off as a factor, saying they are "staging a Grand Slam, not a casting" and describing them as "two unconnected cases".

The absence of three-time victor Serena Williams, could be a factor as the women's game is short on big personalities.

Sharapova also expressed her displeasure at the way the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and its anti-doping boss Stuart Miller failed to notify her of meldonium's altered status.
