Katy Perry is the first to hit 100 million Twitter followers

She has over 8,500 tweets, which means over a thousand tweets per year. Two places behind Trump is Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with 30.7 million followers.

"Thank you, @Twitter, for always giving me an opportunity to have a voice!"

Pop superstar Katy Perry has made history by becoming the first user to garner 100 million followers on Twitter, the social media platform announced.

Justin Bieber has the second highest number of followers at 96.7m, while Barack Obama took third place with nearly 91m.

Asked if she replies to her fans on Twitter, she added: "Sometimes I do, I kind of do a lot more of it when I'm in the zone mode". Her first tweet dated back to 2009.

Mashable questioned the authenticity of Perry's Twitter followers, claiming that bots, or fake accounts, are a common problem on Twitter. By early 2017, Katy's follower base grew to 95 million.

Of course, many of those followers are the same people using different accounts.

The world's most followed politician on Twitter is still Obama, according to Socialbakers.

(Radio.com) Katy Perry has spoken candidly about her struggles with alcohol and depression and even admitted that she has thought about suicide. The singer breaks the 100 million-follower ceiling on social media and has become a unique user.
