People looking to escape the heat can head out to The Bay, where temperatures will be in the mid-70s in San Francisco, or towards the high country, where temperatures in South Lake Tahoe will be in the low-80s.

A less severe heat advisory was issued Friday for the inland cities of Escondido, San Marcos, Poway, La Mesa, El Cajon and Santee.

Daily record highs will be within reach: 115 degrees for Sunday, 118 degrees for Monday and 116 degrees for Tuesday.

The forecast for Friday calls for a high of 97 degrees at Travis Air Force Base, increasing to 99 Saturday and 103 Sunday before dipping below the century mark Monday to 98, according to the National Weather Service.

"There is absolutely no doubt we will be near all-time highs with this heat wave, with the hottest and most unsafe temperatures expected Monday through Wednesday", the National Weather Service in Phoenix said, offering heat safety tips. A less severe heat advisory for the remainder of Riverside County will extend from 11 a.m. Saturday until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

"Take proper heat precautions if you are planning outdoor activities", meteorologists state. Do not forget to check pavement temperatures by feeling it with the back of your hand - if it's hot for you, it's too hot for your pet to walk on. "Others who are frail or have chronic health conditions may develop serious health problems leading to death if they are exposed to high temperatures over several days".

"Always be hydrating with water, seeking shade and if you don't have air conditioning, seek a cooling center", Bartling said. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS.A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected.

Authorities also warned against leaving children or pets in parked cars, which can heat up to lethal levels in just minutes.
