North Korea: US officials seized diplomatic package at JFK

The North Korean regime is accusing US customs agents in NY of "mugging" a diplomatic delegation from the secretive, totalitarian country.

North Korea has claimed that the United States recently mugged its delegation carrying a diplomatic package in NY, calling on Washington to provide an explanation on what it calls a provocation.

The US has been branded a "lawless and felonious state" by North Korea after its officials were supposedly "literally mugged" by police in New York's JFK airport. While U.S. officials have not revealed what the package contained, the North Koreans claim that they had a valid diplomatic courier certificate for carrying the package.

A North Korean spokesperson said a delegate "was literally mugged" at JFK on Friday while trying to return home from a United Nations conference.

"As the diplomats vigorously resisted, they grabbed the diplomatic package using physical violence and made off", spokesperson continued.

The rogue nation threatened unspecified "grave consequences" if the United States failed to provide "a good explanation of its act of infringement upon the sovereignty of the DPRK and an official apology on behalf of the USA government".

"The worldwide community needs to seriously reconsider whether or not NY, where such an outrageous mugging is rampant, is fit to serve as the venue for global meetings", KCNA said.

North Korea's statement came amid the latest tensions between the two archenemies, which occurred following Pyongyang's release of American student Otto Warmbier, whose parents said he was in a coma after being held by the Far East Asian country for the past 17 months.

Does North Korea have a sense of humor after all?

"The US owes the DPRK a good explanation of its act of infringement upon the sovereignty of the DPRK and an official apology on behalf of the USA government", the ministry said. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison by North Korea and was accused of committing the "hostile act" of stealing a political poster from a wall in his hotel.

The White House and Homeland Security Department didn't immediately respond to inquiries, and City Hall declined to comment. Warmbier was arrested back in January 2016 after he overstayed in North Korea - being there on a tourist visa.
