In spite of tweet, lawyer says Trump not under investigation

One of Donald Trump's lawyers insisted Sunday that the president was not under criminal investigation as part of the sweeping probe into Russia's alleged meddling in American elections, despite the USA leader's tweets angrily calling the whole saga a "distraction".

While Sekulow said the president is not being investigated by special counsel #Robert Mueller, he contradicted himself on the same show when he said Trump is being investigated.

The denial comes after President Trump's tweets calling the investigation a "witch hunt".

Your afternoon shot of politics, sent straight from the desk of Joshua Miller.

A member of the President's legal team says he's not under investigation. "But the president does utilize Twitter and social media platforms and, again, the situation on Friday that created the five anonymous sources". "He's not afraid of an investigation because there is no investigation".

He just recently became a public face for Trump's outside legal team, but Sekulow has been well known for decades as a legal advocate for conservative Christian causes.

Trump had posted earlier in the morning that Sekulow would be appearing on the Fox program, but the tweet was later removed. To hear Sekulow tell it, if the president speaks to anyone who's passed a bar exam, that person should "respect the attorney-client privilege" and never divulge the contents of that conversation.

He noted in another tweet, that the "new Rasmussen Poll, one of the most accurate in the 2016 Election, just out with a Trump 50% Approval Rating".

Comey told lawmakers earlier this month that Trump in recent months had asked for his personal loyalty, urged him to drop the investigation of the contacts the president's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, had with Russia's ambassador to Washington, and to "lift the cloud" of the Russian Federation investigation, none of which he acceded to. Although the White House initially said Rosenstein's memo led Trump to fire Comey, the president later said in a television interview that he did so because of the Russian Federation investigation.

"There has been no notification from the special counsel s office that the president is under investigation".

"I don't believe it's going to happen", said Rubio on CNN's "State of the Union".

A simple tweet from President Donald Trump is keeping the Russian Federation investigation in the headlines. In other words, it's going to take more than a couple of memos from James Comey to get Mueller to look seriously at Trump for obstruction of justice. The California congressman said that the president and his associates are engaged in a scorched earth litigation strategy that begins with discrediting Mueller.

"To fight the notion that Mueller would be looking at this at all seems to be something that only the president wants to be not true", Cuomo said.

But for now, Gorelick continues to prep Kushner for his upcoming meeting with investigators from the Senate Intelligence Committee as part of its probe into collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia, The Times reported. "This is a very complex matter involving thousands of pages of intelligence documents and lots of witnesses".
