Beavers (56-4) rout Tigers

LSU starter Eric Walker (8-2) retired OSU in order in the second and had a 2-2 count on the leadoff hitter in the third when he was forced to leave the game. Senior second baseman Cole Freeman is hitting.321 with 41 RBI and 54 runs scored. Kwan walked. Gretler and Kwan scored on a double by Madrigal. The #4 LSU Tigers (49-17) entered the contest on a 17-game win streak and having gone 22-2 in their last 24 games.

The Beavers offensive outburst came against eight LSU pitchers. Two solid innings of relief followed from Caleb Gilbert before his team's defense faltered and Oregon State took immediate advantage, scoring twice on a two-out single by Larnach.

LSU freshman center fielder Zach Watson had two of the Tigers' four hits including a solo home run in the seventh.

The Beavers (55-4), who are seeking their third national championships and the first since winning back-to-back crowns in 2006 and 2007, have dropped only four games this entire season.

Grenier reached on a one-out error by hustling up the line on a routine grounder that LSU shortstop Kramer Robertson bobbled.

The Beavers concluded the five-run sixth with an 8-0 lead and added five more runs over the next two innings. Already leading 3-0, four of the first six batters drew walks, setting the stage for K.J. Harrison.

Three other Beavers - Trevor Larnach, Nick Madrigal and Cadyn Grenier - drove in three runs apiece to give Fehmel plenty of breathing room.

"He (Fehmel) wasn't just throwing the same to every batter", said Watson, who also had a single in the second inning.

One week after outdueling Vanderbilt's Kyle Wright in the Corvallis Super Regional, Oregon State's sophomore right-hander managed to befuddle LSU under the lights at TD Ameritrade Park.

Blake Workman came on and intentionally walked Jackson Lueck, and then walked Quincy Nieporte and Cal Raleigh to give the Seminoles a one-run lead.

A two-run homer to dead center - you just don't see that at this stadium - by Florida State's Dylan Busby in the top of the first off LSU ace Alex Lange.

"I think the main thing is his stuff is the same but he really believes he can do what he needs to do". OSU (56-4) will get three days off before returning to action at noon Friday.

Chase Haney (3-2) worked two-thirds of an inning for the win, and Drew Carlton earned his seventh save after Fullerton put two runners on base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

"We just talked before the game about this is our time, this is our opportunity", Oregon State coach Pat Casey said. It was the first grand slam in the CWS since the tournament moved to TD Ameritrade Park in 2011. Walker said he experienced forearm tightness, the same thing he felt pitching Tuesday in a simulated game.

LSU was never able to settle down on the mound with any pitcher, and once OSU had control of the game, it was time for LSU coach Paul Mainieri to get experience for his young guys. "It (the grand slam) was kind of a momentum shifter". The blunders costs the Tigers two arms, as Gilbert went down then Nick Bush and Todd Peterson after him, andPaul Mainieri brought on Hunter Newman in the top of the sixth.

"They were just fouling pitches off left and right", Gilbert said.

The double-elimination tournament features two brackets, and Sunday's games were the first in the second one.

Kwan led off by placing a trademark bunt on the first pitch he saw between a seemingly off-guard LSU infield.
