Power closes in on IndyCar leaders

Power closes in on IndyCar leaders

"It was a really fast auto - reds or blacks it didn't matter". "We have to keep after it, make sure we keep our head down and get the most out of it in the next races". Really happy for all the guys, especially here. Other than a late-race restart, Newgarden, 26, easily held leads over the field of three seconds or better.

Newgarden led 73 of the 90 laps on the 2.258-mile course to finish 5.156 seconds ahead of Team Penske teammate and pole-sitter Will Power.

"I think we need to have a talk behind closed doors with the drivers", said Rahal.

The Honda Indy 200 was an interesting race for teammate-on-teammate competition. It's been pretty good all weekend. Race victor and new points leader Josef Newgarden of Team Penske leads Dixon by eight points. We've never had the auto like that. But ahead of them, Takuma Sato and Rahal, who started third and fourth, had a heated battle through 15 laps before Rahal was able to slip past the Indianapolis 500 victor.

Rahal eventually ended the race just over a second behind Power in P3, narrowly ahead of reigning champion Simon Pagenaud who enjoyed a competitive race despite starting from P7. "It's got to be a good points race for us". I'm sure you saw it.

Newgarden showed his intentions early when he made an inside pass on Power on the 14th lap. Hopefully tomorrow we can work from fourth.

Team Penske appears poised to control Mid-Ohio again.

That's because he won the Honda Indy 200 two years ago on what's considered his home track, the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, about an hour's drive north of his New Albany birthplace.

Passing opportunities are typically hard to come by on this narrow and twisty permanent road course, but this race had plenty of excitement behind Newgarden, who at one point led by 10 seconds.

"I know we started on the pole and finished second, and that could be viewed as coming up short in some way, but it was a very good finish for the Verizon Chevrolet", he said on www.indycar.com. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver spun sideways in Turn 2 on his final lap, forcing other drivers to slow as he corrected the vehicle to continue on track. Kanaan was docked his two fastest times.

A final 30-minute warmup practice is set for 11:15 a.m. ET Sunday and will stream live on RaceControl.IndyCar.com. Every vehicle that started the race finished the race.

The New Zealand motor racing driver Scott Dixon has lost the Indy auto championship lead after the latest round at Mid-Ohio.

The 2014 champion battled with Rahal throughout the majority of the race after losing the lead, with Rahal initially performing the undercut on the Penske racer after the first round of pit-stops. The top four drivers are within 17 points.

He is third in the series standings, eight points back.

Chevrolet drivers, specifically Team Penske drivers, took the top 2, three of the top 4 and four of the top 7 spots in the race. Rinus VeeKay finished second for Pabst Racing, which clinched the team championship for the Wisconsin-based outfit. "It's still a very tight points race".
