Aston Villa to sign Josh Onomah from Tottenham on season-long loan

The 20-year-old, a product of Tottenham's youth academy, was snapped up on a season-long loan by the Championship side on Friday, but not before he signed a new four-year contract with his parent club.

Twelve months from now, I hope we're scheming how to stop him as he suits up for Spurs on the opening day of the Premier League season against our Villa.

He was also an important member of England's Under-20 World Cup winning squad and also won the European Under-17 Championship with his country in 2014.

The Scottish champions were in pole-position to land the 20-year-old midfielder following his standout performances for England Under-20s this summer.

The England Under-20 World Cup victor has been touted for a bright future but only made 12 appearances in all competitions for the Spurs first team last season.

England youth worldwide Onomah featured 10 times for Tottenham last season but made just five substitute appearances in the Premier League as he fell behind fellow academy graduate Harry Winks in the pecking order.

Whilst his departure further depletes Tottenham's strength in depth, having already lost Kyle Walker to Manchester City and yet to bring in any new faces, the opportunity to play regular senior football could prove to be vital in Onomah's development.

"I can't wait to get started".

The youngster has three years left on his current deal and Spurs see him as a future star in North London.

Josh Onomah is exactly what Villa need, particularly after the bad news on Grealish's extended absence.
