Despacito is the first visuals on YouTube to make the three billion views marker and has racked up over 3.4bn hits since its release.

Statistics shared by YouTube have revealed that the "Despacito" video has been viewed over 1 million times in over 99 countries, with Morocco providing the most views in the Arab world.

The hit song displaced songs like See you again, a song featuring Wiz Khalifa and Charles Puth.

Though Luis Fonsi's "Despacito" later surpassed this number, the song's popularity presents a temping offer for potential bidders.

The music video is now the most liked video on YouTube history, and is considered one of the most popular song of all time.

"Wow", Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee, who is featured on 'Despacito', said to his almost 17 million followers on Instagram.

"Thank you to everybody involved".

To celebrate the song's success in India, Universal Music Group with Davar launched the #DespacitoMovement campaign last month. Released to limited fanfare in January, by July the mesmerising Daddy Yankee collaboration was the most streamed song to date; it has now been streamed 4.6 billion times.

"The music industry has changed, the rules of music have changed and YouTube has a big responsibility [in it] and I recognize it", Yankee said.

In YouTube record terms, Psy's 'Gangnam Style' was left in the dust Friday with 2.92 billion views.
