Arrest Made After Boiling Water Dousing Scalds Girl

An 11-year-old girl from New York City's Bronx borough sustained serious burns after her "friends" poured boiling water on her face during a sleepover early Monday morning. "I gave her a hug, and she's smiling". "She's very sad. She's emotionally messed up", she told NY1. I was told that they didn't like her. It's been going on several times.

A cousin of Jamoneisha told police her cousin and the older girl were arguing before the incident, although the cause of the argument was not immediately clear.

The family shared a heartbreaking photo of the girl in the burn unit at Harlem Hospital, permanently scarred after she was viciously and intentionally scalded while at a sleepover, surrounded by young girls she considered her friends.

The girl, identified by NY 1 as Jamoneisha Merritt, suffered burns to to her face chest, back and shoulders early Monday morning. It involves sick stunts where unsuspecting victims get hot water thrown at them. "I wanted to do it, '" Ebony said, although the girl's admission was not independently confirmed.

Police charged her with felony assault.

As she was sleeping, the girl poured the water on Merritt, who was forced awake by the searing pain caused by the hot water. "But after she saw what she did to [Jamoneisha] was really wrong, she tried to kill herself".

"I was told that they didn't like her", she continued. "I don't want her to see me cry".

Eight-year-old Ki'ari Pope died this month after attempting to imitate a video where others carried out the challenge.

The family described the 11-year old as being "joyful, fun and energetic", adding that she always has a smile on her face and loved to see others have one, too. "I mean, I couldn't even imagine a child doing that to another child".
