Armed police descend on hotel in Salford after child hit by vehicle

The boy died at the scene, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

An "ongoing" police operation is being reported at the Ibis Budget Hotel in Manchester, with mass armed police presence and reports of disturbing screams and people covered in blood.

The paper also reports that a number of witnesses were scene comforting a distraught woman moments after the devastating incident occurred.

Police were called to reports of a collision involving a child and Toyota Rav-4 at a auto park shortly after 9pm on Thursday, according to reports.

In a tweet, it said: "Police responding to collision involving young boy near Ibis hotel in Salford".

Police confirmed it was not a firearms incident.

The collision is understood to have happened in the rear auto park of the Ibis Budget hotel, which connects to that of the AC Hotel Salford Quays. "Enquiries ongoing", police wrote.

Police were also seen in the AC Hotel, which is next door to the Ibis and run by Marriott.

A disturbing video showing the scene before ambulances arrived surfaced on social media.

"A woman was shouting hysterically and a children were screaming and crying". Some 250 people were injured.

She described seeing police talking to a "little girl on a bench" who "appears to be wrapped in a towel".
