Caught on Camera: Car Plunges From Parking Garage

The Austin Police Department has released surveillance video showing a auto plunging seven stories from a downtown parking garage and striking another vehicle as it lands in an alley.

In the video, a Chevrolet Tahoe is seen trying to turn around in the alley.

The dramatic scene was captured on video released Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, by Austin police. Suddenly, the BMW violently crashes to the ground behind the SUV.

"My window was down and I heard something really loud and abnormal, so I just started driving forward and the vehicle landed on the backside of the Tahoe", William Burch said. Bystanders reportedly helped the driver until paramedics arrived. Police said they mistook the gas pedal for the brakes and crashed through the parking garage barriers.

The incident marked the second time in less than a year that a auto broke through the barriers of the same parking garage.

Code enforcement officials with the city have said they will urge the owner of the garage to install concrete barriers instead of the cable wires.

A Texas woman has miraculously survived after driving her luxury sedan off the side of an Austin parking garage.

The garage is now looking at redesigning its entire cable system.
