Trump says he was surprised by Federal Bureau of Investigation raid of Manafort's home

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, whose house was raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation recently, is switching defense attorneys. That step would have required them to prove to a judge that there's probable cause a crime has been committed. "Essentially, 'We need you to be truthful about this, we don't think you've been truthful, we're giving you a chance to be truthful now'".

Manafort will be represented by Miller & Chevalier's Kevin Downing, who is a "real rockstar global tax litigator", Maloni said. In this case, that would be that there was a high risk of evidence being destroyed if subjects of the search are awake and aware the agents are coming.

Given the president's frantic attacks on the special counsel, for once I agree with Barr. Or, they said, Mueller may have been moving quickly amid a series of existential threats. However, Russia has denied the allegations, while Trump has called the multiple investigations into his campaign a 'witch hunt'.

Fox News analyst Judge Napolitano said Thursday the FBI raid on Paul Manafort's home was "much more aggressive" than tactics used in the Hillary Clinton investigation.

Though Trump himself has engaged in a number of opaque foreign business deals, his aides believe it was Manafort's work in Russia, Ukraine, and elsewhere that set off the special counsel's alarm bells-and got him digging into issues only tangentially related to alleged Russian election shenanigans. Who knows? Robert Mueller and his team of investigators, that's who. I have no loans in Russian Federation.

Manafort spokesman Jason Maloni says Federal Bureau of Investigation agents obtained a warrant and searched one of Manafort's homes.

He took over an investigation run out of the Southern District of NY into whether Manafort laundered money from eastern Europe, as well as a separate probe into his belated registration under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) for his political work in Ukraine.

The raid, which occurred without warning on July 26, marked an aggressive new approach by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team in dealing with a key figure in the Russian Federation inquiry. So, authorities indicted his wife, Lea. The president's condemnations of the "failing" New York Times, which has doggedly reported the facts in the face of Trump's contempt for the truth, ignores the recent spike in subscribers the Times has enjoyed. One of his key witnesses was the brother-in-law of the defendant, Joseph Massino.
