Chelsea manager Conte admits red cards could prompt re-think

A number of problems led to a loss at their home ground, with Gary Cahill handed a straight red in the early phases, and playmaker Cesc Fabregas receiving two yellows which saw Antonio Conte's squad reduced to nine men.

The game's turning point came after just 14 minutes with the Chelsea captain's dismissal for a risky, high tackle. As for conceding thrice their opener, they are the first defending champs to ever manage that.

Gary Cahill sent off after 14 minutes and Burnley capitalized scoring three goals before half time through Sam Vokes double and Stephen Ward's volley.

Conte said his halftime team talk, which along with the introduction of new striker Alvaro Morata who scored on his debut, appeared to completely transform the game, involved pointing out how the players had panicked and lost their shape.

Saturday may have been a day to forget for Chelsea, but for club-record signing Álvaro Morata, it turned out to be fairly memorable. The former Real Madrid star also laid on the assist for David Luiz to grab a second, although it was not enough to prevent defeat.

There were also a few cards handed out to Chelsea.

"The sending off of Cahill was a key moment, because to play the rest of the game with 10 and then nine men is not easy", the Italian told Sky Sports. Chelsea are a top-class side and it is tough to come here and dominant possession, even when they have 10 men, but we were too flippant with the ball and we gave it away too cheaply.

"Also I have to study a new formation with 10 men, because when it happens with this regularity I must be anxious".

"I don't want to comment on the referee, absolutely not".

The initial tweet by Burnley underplayed the achievements of Dyche's side, who many felt were relegation candidates given their poor away form last season.

"We must focus on working very hard with these players". I am not anxious, I am ready to fight with these players. We lost our composure after the first red card and we conceded the three goals. Conte has made it clear that the club must bring in fresh faces before the transfer window closes on the 31st August.
