Massive landslide kills 46 in northern India

The incident took place in Kotpuri on the Mandi-Pathankot national highway of the state. The administration called in the army and NDRF teams for the rescue operations. The land slide took away over 250 meter-long length of the national highway in its folds.

An HRTC bus and a 4 storied house have been buried.

"Three vehicles were stranded after the landslide". While one of the buses was on its way from Chamba to Manali with at least 45 passengers on board, the other one from the opposite direction was bound for Katra (Jammu) from Manali. Survivors of the disaster have been shifted to hospital and are undergoing emergency treatment. According to Hindustan Times, rescue operations were affected by rains. Authorities, however, indicated that nearly all of the bodies have been recovered even as they said that the death toll could rise slightly higher - to above 50. The minister also posted helpline numbers of the HRTC and the district authorities.

Shimla: Thirty people are feared killed after a massive landslide buried two buses they were travelling in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district.

The chief minister directed for intensifying the rescue and relief measures on war footing.

Rescue teams reached the scene but struggled in the dark and steep terrain with the army later joining the search.

Soldiers used shovels and pickaxes to remove rocks, boulders and debris, after two cars and a motorbike was also trapped.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today spoke to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and discussed with him the flood situation in the State where almost 320 NDRF personnel have been rushed.
