Swansea, Everton agree to $58 million Sigurdsson fee

Everton have announced the £45m club-record signing of playmaker Glyfi Sigurdsson with a fantastic reveal video showcasing the famous Iceland chant.

"He knows the Premier League and he had really good seasons with Swansea".

Everton says it has signed Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea for a club-record fee, further strengthening the team's attacking options to compensate for the departure of striker Romelu Lukaku.

Everton's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has spent close to £100 million so far in recruiting former favourite Wayne Rooney, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (£30m), midfielder Davy Klaassen (£23.6m), defender Michael Keane (£30m), Cuco Martina and Sandro Ramirez.

Sigurdsson's importance to Swansea was underlined by the fact he scored nine league goals and had 13 assists as the club just avoided relegation from the Premier League last season.

"For myself, I would like to score as many goals as possible and create as many goals for my teammates as I can".

Yes, maybe for Monday against Manchester City, but he didn't train today.

"He will not be involved tomorrow", Koeman said. "I have seen him in blue but I don't know if all the paperwork is done".

He said: "The latest is that he had his medical this morning and what I heard from the doctor was that there was no problem with that", Koeman said.

"It looks like a hamstring injury but we need to do more tests", said Koeman, who is not yet sure when Barkley will be fit. "We need to wait".

He should act as a fine replacement for Ross Barkley, who has always been expected to leave Goodison Park, per the Guardian's Andy Hunter.

The England global, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, has not trained for several days but Koeman did not put a timeframe on his return.

Koeman, who has let midfielder Gareth Barry join West Brom, also signalled he would like to strengthen in the current transfer window beyond the capture of Sigurdsson.
