Mom pulls gun during a Walmart 'back to school' scuffle

According to police, one of the Farmington Hill residents and the 20-year-old woman both reached for the last notebook on the shelf.

Scary moments at a Walmart in Novi on Monday afternoon.

"It was in the back to school section over a notebook", said Det.

'One girl was going to by a notebook, there was one left.

According to WCRZ, it is unknown who wound up purchasing the notebook. That mother got shoved out of the way as the three continued to fight.

"She's a valid CPL (Concealed Pistol License) holder", Baetens said. At least they did until her mother pulled out her gun. Video shows customers and employees running away from the area.

Detroit police officer Detective Scott Baetens told media she then warned the woman against attacking her daughter while aiming the gun at her, causing other Walmart shoppers to flee in terror.

"It was a senseless act of violence all the way around", Baetens said.

Novi police said they need more witnesses to come forward as they work to get surveillance video from the Walmart to get a closer look at what happened. "I don't know how they ended up with it, but in the middle of the confrontation, they ended up with it and they purchased it", Baetens said. Prosecutors will reportedly determine the instigator and if the woman was, in fact, pulling her firearm in self-defense. Suddenly an older woman-the mother of one of the brawlers-pulled a gun out of her bag and pointed it at them. All four women could be facing charges for assault, which carries a 90-day sentence.
