Kevin Anderson vs. Rafael Nadal 2017 US Open Final Pick, Odds, Prediction

"Nadal's, I think, one of the greatest competitors in sports, period". The Spaniard hasn't won a hardcourt title since Doha in 2013.

The bottom half of the draw opened wide after No. 2 Andy Murray withdrew before the tournament with a hip injury and No. 4 Alexander Zverev and No. 5 Marin Cilic lost during the first week of the tournament.

Carreño Busta played four qualifiers in his first four matches at this year's event, making him the first player in the Open Era to face that many qualifiers in a slam. "I know I didn't win matches against top players, top-10 or top-20 players, but I am very happy with my tournament". Held on for the set 6-3.

Anderson, born in Johannesburg in May 1986 follows in the footsteps of Kevin Curren, who reached the 1985 Wimbledon final three months after becoming a naturalised US citizen, and Johan Kriek, who made the US Open final in 1980.

When asked if Anderson could beat Del Potro or Nadal, Carreno Busta replied: 'Yeah, why not?

However in the second he started to tire as Anderson's massive serves began to wear him down. It will take even more to beat the in-form Carreno Busta. He has an all-round game based on impenetrable defence and counter-punching strokes. "These Grand Slams are tough". Nadal has improved his play with each match this tournament and his serve has been the most impressive. Schwartzman had knocked out fifth seed Marin Cilic and 16th seed Lucas Pouille and could have turned out to be a risky opponent but Carreno Busta disposed him off 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 without much fuss.

It looked as though the Spaniard might prevail when he responded to finally losing serve midway through the second set by hitting straight back, thanks to a forehand victor arrowed down the line.

In the female category, Sloane Stephens, who became the first American woman besides the Williams sisters to reach the US Open semifinals since 2004 defeated Venus Williams 6-1 0-6 7-5 in the semi-final on Thursday, to make her first Grand Slam final. Anderson, however, is doubtless proud of the hard court form he has shown this year. "It's a fantastic feeling", Anderson, seeded 28, said after that win.

It has been a year of breakthroughs for Carreno Busta. A run into the final will cap off an unbelievable season and help him cement his place in the top-10 (he is already assured of a No 10 ranking on Monday). I felt like I let him control the court quite well.

This has been a marked improvement over the past year, where they have gone from a 31-point defeat to New Zealand in Durban in January to coming close to beating them.

The momentum quickly changed in the second, however, a scorching forehand giving Anderson the break, only for Carreno Busta to hit straight back with a fine forehand down the line.
