Meet Harvey and Irma, a Washington State couple married 75 years

Unlike, the hurricanes that caused so much damage to property and some deaths, the relationship between #Harvey and Irma Schluter has been far from stormy during their 75-year marriage. But there's never been an Irma in the same season before because the rotating list of tropical storm names used Irene up until it was retired - as the names of particularly bad storms are - in 2011.

After marrying in 1942 and returning to Washington, the pair chose to become foster parents, ultimately opening their home to 120 children-many with physical and mental disabilities-over the years. "It bothers me", Irma told KXLY4 News. "It's really unusual to have our names attached to the hurricanes", she said. But when storms are devastating and memorable, they retire their names.

Harvey and Irma Schluter - aged 104 and 93 - said they "don't know how" both their names ended up being attached to the storms.

The coincidence has brought visits and telephone calls from the New York Times and television stations. The World Meteorological Organization does cycle through names, alternating male and female, each year.

The couple met in Spokane many years ago through their siblings. The couple eventually got married in 1942.

The pair from Spokane, Wash. say it's hard for them to even watch the news about the namesake hurricanes.

Because how could two devastating hurricanes be named after two very sweet people. Over the years, the couple have fostered over 120 children, and had two of their own, according to the Spokesman-Review.

"I think he's pretty special right now", Irma said.

In Glover's piece, he reported that numerous children the couple fostered still refer to them as "Mom and Dad", the Spokesman-Review reported.

"I have no idea what I'd do; I've never been in that kind of a situation", she said.

When asked why they helped so many Mrs Schluter told The Spokesman-Review: "I don't know, we just did".
