Meanwhile, a police official said that the firing from across the border in Debraj, Krishna Ghati and Ishapur in Mendhar sector started around 10.30 am, prompting retaliation by Indian troops guarding the border.

"I am willing to meet anyone who will help us in finding solutions to problems facing J&K", Mr. Singh tweeted before landing in Srinagar.

The Union minister, who is on a four-day visit to the state, is scheduled to address a press conference here tomorrow before flying to the Rajouri district in Jammu for the second leg of his visit.

Majority blamed the electronic media for what they called negative propaganda about Kashmir and urged Rajnath to regulate them.#Rajnath also had a one-to-one meeting with chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, who urged the central leader to reach out to all sections of the society in keeping with the Agenda of Alliance (AoA) between the BJP and her Peoples Democratic Party.

"After Congress' announcement, the home minister who didn't have four hours for the state has come here on a four-day visit". He, however, alleged that the day PDP-BJP government took over the state affairs, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has worsened. Singh's Kashmir visit comes in the backdrop of PM Modi's Red Fort speech where he had said neither bullets nor abuse can solve the Kashmir problem. Earlier, a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Reban village outside the town of Sopore.

On Saturday itself, soon after the home minister's arrival in Srinagar, a J&K policeman, Imtiyaz Ahmed, was killed and his colleague Shakeel Ahmed critically injured in a militant attack at Anantnag's bus terminus. Reports said the residential house in which the militant was trapped was damaged during the gunfight.

"The nation is supporting the courage of our security forces".

Anantnag, with three other south Kashmir districts - Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama - have seen the most number of militancy-related incidents and violence compared to the rest of the Valley in the past couple of years.
