Sebastian Janikowski placed on IR

With Sebastian Janikowski under contract until 2018, Tavecchio is unlikely to see the field in Oakland, either.

Janikowski (back) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Giorgio Tavecchio has been promoted from the team's practice squad and will be the team's kicker until further notice.

The team made the move a day before the season opener against the Titans.

The Raiders' transition to Tavecchio will be somewhat easier on holder/punter Marquette King since the former Bear is left-footed, like Janikowski.

Janikowski is the franchise's career leader in games played with 268 and points with 1,799.

However, as long as he keeps drilling field goals of more than 50 yards, Raider Nation is OK with the Milan, Italy native filling in for the Polish Cannon.

Tavecchio has spent time with the Raiders in the each of the last four preseasons, and has connected on a combined 9-of-11 field goal attempts in preseason action.

Janikowski will have to miss at least eight weeks.
