Gov. Carney calls for Congressional fix for DACA

Trump is ending the Obama-era program that gave almost 800,000 immigrants temporary work permits and deportation protections. 97% of those with DACA status now are working or studying full time. Because of the Trump administration's ending of the program, 800,000 of these participants have now become eligible for deportation. The USCIS will adjudicate renewal applications filed by October 5, 2017 from current DACA beneficiaries if their status expires prior to March 5, 2018.

Gregory Chen, the American Immigration Lawyers Association's director of government relations, said the tweet didn't carry weight without more specific instructions by the Department of Homeland Security to agents in the field.

Although Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery III was one of the ten attorney generals to push for Trump to end DACA, he chose to step back from the suit right before Trump made his decision, citing a human element as the cause. "This decision is unacceptable and does not reflect who we are as Americans".

"As his summer of near constant chaos ends, President Trump faces a series of challenges more hard than any he has dealt with up to this point", Meyers said. Second, do we need a complete revamping of our political system, which is completely paralyzed at this time, failing to address our country's many problems? This is a program that protects the young people from deportation.

"We can not stand idly by while this administration needlessly and cruelly threatens the futures of more than 10,000 CT residents", he said. "Despite how disheartening this decision may be, we hope that members of the Franklin & Marshall community will remain strong and unite in support of one another".

In the five years that the program has existed, almost 800,000 recipients have been able to join the workforce and contribute to the community by opening businesses and paying taxes.
