Two insurgents killed one OGW arrested in South Kashmir

One terrorist has been arrested following the encounter.

Acting on a tip off about presence of insurgents SOG Kulgam and Army cordoned off Khudwani area of Kulgam around 3:00 am today. Militants soon fired at the patrolling officials, to which they fired back, and soon neutralized two of the active terrorists, while a third surrendered, and has been arrested.

According to a police spokesman based in Srinagar, the operation was jointly carried out by Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir police.

Both belonged to the region's largest militant group, Hizbul Mujahideen, police said. Police said two weapons were recovered from the encounter site.

The slain militants were reportedly identified as Sayar Ahmad Wani and Dawood Illahi Khan. The other two terrorists tried to escape from the spot while firing indiscriminately at the security forces.

This comes hours after an encounter in the Shopian district on Sunday, when a Hizbul terrorist was neutralised and another apprehended alive.

The two encounters have occurred in the Kashmir Valley at the time of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's four-day visit to the state.
