Quarterback Matt Ryan proved to be the difference at Soldier Field as he threw for 321 yards, including a match-clinching 88-yard pass to tight end Austin Hooper in the final quarter.

The game was the season opener for both teams.

The best part of the night for the Chargers was the decision to bleep it and chuck it panned out well for Rivers and his receivers; there's no reason to be overly conservative with the weapons on hand here.

Two head coaching debuts and the first woman to call a nationally televised NFL game made Monday night a historical one. "I felt it. I just couldn't tell you where I felt it. We'll fix that and be able to finish the game even better". They'll look to rebound, and do it from a new location - as the Chargers have moved to Los Angeles for the 2017 season.

They didn't have a problem identifying first-year head coach Anthony Lynn on the other sideline. "We've been on both sides of those kind of games where teams start roaring back like that".

"He is just such a good guy, works hard and he is a fun guy to be on the field with", Harris' fellow defensive lineman Derek Wolfe said. "And they called timeout and I think he drilled the second one, too". Look for all those numbers to go up this year. "I felt like we had a chance to block everyone today". The most important one of the bunch, though, came from five yards out when Siemian found Bennie Fowler for six points.

Rivers completed 22 of 33 for 192 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. "Down the stretch there, offensively we wish we would have made a few more plays to help our defense out, but, shoot, a win's a win".

So, of course, running back Jamaal Charles promptly fumbled, once again putting the Chargers in easy striking distance. On the next play, Rivers connected with a streaking Travis Benjamin, who got behind safety Darian Stewart, for the touchdown with 7:00 remaining.

With four minutes left on the game clock, Brandon McManus - who inked a new four-year deal earlier in the day - missed a 50-yarder. The newly minted Los Angeles Chargers will open their season in a real NFL football stadium against the Denver Broncos.

Later in the second quarter, rookie Isaiah McKenzie gave the Broncos great field position with a 31 yard punt return. That's how Monday's date with the Chargers went for roughly three quarters, until a pair of late turnovers and touchdown passes cut L.A.'s deficit to three with seven minutes to go. Running back Melvin Gordon had a solid season in 2016, though he did miss games due to injury. However, cornerback Aqib Talib believed Siemian's interception could have easily been called pass interference, thus negating the interception and leaving the quarterback with a clear stat line.

Harris got the start only because Jared Crick and Zach Kerr were out with injuries.
