Real Madrid's Gareth Bale: You have to keep evolving as a player

Real Madrid's Gareth Bale: You have to keep evolving as a player

"I'm a different player of course I am", Bale added.

Well there's an argument for that, but I think the main thing, when you look back on your career, is that you look at your trophies.

"It's going to be a big miss for them but with modern football I suppose other things are taken into consideration, clubs have to maximize revenue and they can't just think about what arena makes for the best atmosphere for the players to play in".

The Welsh superstar has since struggled for form for Los Blancos, but could be beginning to show glimpses of what viewers would expect after a summer of regaining full fitness.

Bale has won three European titles since swapping Tottenham for Madrid in a world-record move four summers ago, scoring in the final in his first season and netting a penalty in the shoot-out victory over neighbours Atletico in 2016.

Since his switch to La Liga in 2013, Bale has found himself rather injury stricken, hindering his performances for quite a long time, but the 28-year-old will be hoping to put those injuries firmly in the past and kick on under Zinedine Zidane.

"But when you've been injured for three months and you see your team-mates playing, you really want to return and that's what I did".

If Bale does score and does celebrate against his former team, it certainly won't be out of disrespect, as he credits Spurs for a huge part of his football journey after six years with the club. If it's a 91st-minute victor, can you control yourself? "I love the club and still keep in touch with a lot of people there".

How does Bale feel about coming up against Tottenham in the Champions League this season?

"It was a shame we didn't win as many trophies as I would have liked".

It is something he says he has spoken about with Real colleague Luka Modric, a player with whom he enjoyed playing so much it actually influenced his decision to move to Real a year after the Croatian had made the same move.

"I don't really look into things like that [No 1 status]".
