Rian Johnson has no plans to direct 'Star Wars: Episode IX'

While doing a Japanese press tour for the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, writer-director Rian Johnson announced that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, 500 Days of Summer) will be appearing in a small cameo role in the upcoming film.

Del Rey, the publishing company that handles numerous Star Wars books, revealed on Twitter that the novelization of the upcoming movie will be released March 6, 2018. Now I'm just thinking about putting the movie out there and seeing how audiences respond to it.

His long time friend Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a cameo voicing an alien.

Gordon-Levitt has appeared in almost all of Johnson's films so it makes sense he'll pop up for at least a hot second in The Last Jedi.

Following his statement, Lucasfilm confirmed that J.J. Abrams will direct the final installment in the current trilogy.

"I think this is ok to say", Johnson said.

It was very gratifying for me that Mark and Daisy and the whole rest of the cast were very shocked by some of the things that happened in the script.

Other rumored cameos for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" also include Tom Hardy ("Mad Max: Fury Road") and Justin Theroux ("The Leftovers").

Funnily enough, one of Gordon-Levitt's earliest acting gigs was as an alien pretending to be a teenage boy in the comedy sitcom 3rd Rock From the Sun.

There will, however, be other Last Jedi books released on December 15.
